リトル・フィートとコラボのセカンドファンク。さすがリズム狂パーマー氏。リミックスバージョンは音の厚みがすごい。まるでハードロックに仕上がっております。パーマー氏こういう音本当に好きだったんだな…
リミックス盤のライナーノーツ（英文）を頑張って読みました。中学生英語すらままならない私の翻訳による解釈なので99%くらい誤訳してそうなのですが本人によると、
- キーボのジミー・スミスの提案でこの曲をやることになった（マルタ島時代（幼少期）に聴いたハリー・ベラフォンテ版を知っていたから？）
- ロスでリトル・フィートと録音、いい感じに仕上げてくれたしビル・ペインのピアノが最高

本当になんでか知らんけどパーマー版がやたらコピーされてるんです。まるでパーマーバージョンが原曲だったかのように混在している状態。どっちなのか聴いてみないとわからない。カオス。

パーマー少年が聴いていたのはこれでしょう。このハリー・ベラフォンテの曲が最もメジャーと思われます。

これもだいぶ違いますね。こういうの自分で訳せるようになればご紹介も捗るのになあ、などと思う今日この頃。。。
大変恥ずかしいことなのですが、この曲を聴くまでは”カリプソ”というジャンルを知りませんでした。パイレーツオブカリビアンのやつしか知らなかった。
wikiの解説を丸々信じていいものか、ちょっと悩ましいところではあるのですが、このジャンルが生まれた経緯を考えるともしやこの曲なにかすごいメッセージがあったのでは…？とか思ってしまうんですけど、どうなんでしょう。この曲メッセージ性あるのかな…？パーマーさんは曲のバックボーンも大切にする人だから、きっと改変（悪）はしていない…はず。
こんな風に、まるでこのアレンジがハリー・ベラフォンテの曲のように扱われてしまっています。なんでかわからん（本人談）けど、それだけパーマーさんがいい仕事したってことでいいんじゃないでしょうか。さすが俺たちのパーマーさん！

かのグレイトフル・デッドもやってます。一時期、ビーン・ベアにハマってぬいぐるみ集めてました
どうもデッドのカバーのほうが有名みたい。YouTubeでの検索はダントツでこっちが引っかかります。本人たちもお気に入りの1曲のようで80年代から10年近くライブでやってたらしい。こちらは原曲カバーということになってますが、歌詞はパーマーverのようです。「Ain't me it's people that say～～～♪」あたりのメロディはパーマーverっぽく聴こえちゃうなあ。ワイはパーマーさんのアレンジが好きやで…
